I moved to Poway more than 12 years ago for the same reason as many people: Poway is a safe family city with great schools, open spaces, and plenty of local amenities.
I intend to keep it that way.
Most of my professional time is spent as a Scientist at UCSD. I was originally working in the field of human pregnancy disorders but, for the last two years, my time has been spent setting up and helping to operate UCSD's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
When my daughter enrolled in Tierra Bonita Elementary, I enrolled in the Tierra Bonita PAWS, a father's group that builds things for the school and runs some of the school's fundraising events. If you're a father and your child attends Tierra Bonita, contact Eric Angell (tierrabonitapaws@gmail.com), who is the current PAWS president, and sign up. It's a great way to help the kids and it's a lot of fun.
I have served for three years on the Poway Budget Review Committee (BRC) both as a member and as the Vice-Chair. Outside of the City Council, this is the primary financial oversight committee for the City's budget. There are five appointed positions, one from each member of the City Council.
It's a rewarding experience and, if you have an interest in learning more or getting nominated for a position on the BRC, please indicate this on the "Contact" page.
In the event that you do NOT want to be nominated to the BRC, please click on the "Donate" page and support the campaign. :-)
I like to hike, bike, camp, and build things around the house. I have an interest astronomy and dark skies, and helped to get the City of Poway to adopt the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) guidelines for nighttime lighting.
